Born in England to an English mother and Italian father, Cherie grew up West London and studied at Cambridge University before deciding to become an actor. She played key roles in various productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the late 1970's moving into film with the role of Guinevere in "Excalibur" in 1981. She has appeared in a variety of television and film roles, including the lead role in the television drama "The Manageress" and more recently as the madam in "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and in both the modern day version of "Casualty" as well as the historic versions set at the turn of the twentieth century, "Casualty 1906" and "Casualty 1907".
Competing in Strictly Come Dancing series six, Cherie's professional dance partner was James Jordan. Cherie & James started the competition with a flourish, scoring 33 points for a beautiful Foxtrot which placed them at the top of the leaderboard, followed by a seductive Rumba which kept them in top spot and widely praised by all the judges. An American Smooth followed, which enchanted all except Craig, who gave them only a 7, and meant a fall from the number one position, but still put them in a very respectable third place, and just one point below the leading couples. Cherie's first stumble came in week six and the Paso doble, which she struggled with through training, and after a mistake in the first few seconds of the routine, seemed to knock her confidence for the rest of the routine. This lack of confidence continued for the next week as well, when she danced a Salsa with very complicated choreography and saw them drop below the 30 points mark for the first time and seventh out of ten couples with the judges. A return to ballroom the next week saw Cherie return to her best, with a romantic Waltz which earned four 9's and a joint top place with the judges. Controversial public voting was to put Cherie & James in the dance off in the ninth week of the competition, where their Cha Cha Cha had scored 32 points from the judges but received mixed comments with most of the judges thinking Cherie needed to let go a bit more, and be less prim and proper in her latin dances. With only one of the judges voting to save them, Cherie & James were to leave the competition that week, finishing eighth out of fourteen couples.
