FERN BRITTON

Television Presenter

Show business is in Fern Britton's blood, as daughter of the English actor Tony Britton. She has worked as a television presenter since 1979, working on a variety of regional and national programmes as a news reader and continuity announcer, before coming to prominence when she hosted the hit daytime cookery show, Ready, Steady, Cook, before going on to host This Morning with Phillip Schofield, where the pair were hugely popular and became renowned for getting the giggles during the live broadcast. Since leaving the daytime show, she has presented her own chat show in the teatime slot on Channel 4, and has also written two novels, with a third due for publication next year.

Fern's first appearance on Strictly was in the 2010 Christmas Special when she was partnered with Matthew Cutler, and returned to compete in the full series in Series 10 dancing with Artem Chigvintsev. It was a shaky start for Fern with her first dance, the cha cha cha, which was a bit safe and careful, but with a better Viennese waltz to follow, things were looking up. The two theme weeks that followed saw Fern & Artem given songs that didn't really suit the dance styles, but in week 6, the performer in Fern came out and with a great song, her salsa was her best dance and her highest scoring dance. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep them out of the dance off, and up against strong competition, the judges voted unanimously and it was Fern's time to leave the competition.
