Jessie grew up in North London, and initially trained to become a make-up artist and worked for two years at the Royal Shakespeare Company. It was here that she decided to apply for drama school, and attended the London college "The Poor School". Jessie came to public attention as Kat Slater in the BBC One soap, "EastEnders", where she stayed for five years. After leaving the series, Jessie worked on successful one-off drama's for BBC television, including "A Class Apart" and "The Dinner Party", before taking the lead role in the BBC Four drama "Miss Marie Lloyd". She also made her West End stage debut in the musical "Rent".
Jessie was partnered with Darren Bennett, to compete in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing. Jessie had a shaky start to the competition, dancing the Salsa, but being the first of the female celebrities to compete, and opening the second programme of the series, nerves got the better of her and she finished bottom of the leaderboard on the second week. The public saved her, and she went on to dance the Quickstep in the fourth programme, but a mistake early on in the routine, allowed the nerves to creep back in, and she lost her posture and performance throughout the dance, and was once again at the bottom of the leaderboard. Finding herself in the bottom two, she reprised her Quickstep in the dance-off, and although she didn't make the same mistake at the beginning, the judges voted three to one against Jessie & Darren, and they finished the series joint thirteenth out of sixteen couples.
