JILL HALFPENNY
Actor
Jill's acting career started early, when she took the role of Nicola Dobson in the BBC childrens drama "Byker Grove". This was just the start, and after appearing in various television and theatre roles, she joined the cast of "EastEnders" in 2002. She left the soap in 2004, and after taking part in Strictly Come Dancing, returned to the stage as Roxie Hart in the West End musical "Chicago" and has continued to perform on stage and screen ever since, as well as taking on some voice work as narrator of various television programmes.
Taking part in the second series of Strictly Come Dancing, Jill was partnered with Darren Bennett. They worked very well together, and after a good first couple of weeks, it was their Jive in week three that made the couple stand out, with excellent comments from the judges and a score of 35 points, sending them to the top of the leaderboard, where they firmly stayed with the exception of week seven. Even then, it was their Tango which only scored 29 points which kept them off the top, as in the same week, they danced an excellent Paso Doble and earned the first 10 of the series, and a total of 37 points from the judges. In the final, Jill & Darren chose to dance their Foxtrot again, which received good comments, and a score of 34, but it was their latin choice, the Jive, which was to be their crowning glory. The first dance in Strictly history to score the perfect four 10's, it set the benchmark against which all future dances on Strictly would be judged. The public agreed with the judges, and Jill & Darren won the competition. They were asked back to compete in the 2004 Christmas Special where the best of series one competed against the best of series two, and even though they didn't have the highest mark, were such firm favourites with the audience, that they were also crowned 2004 Champion of Champions.
