JULIAN CLARY

Comedian and writer

Julian's comedy career started in the 1980's as 'The Joan Collins Fanclub' consisting of him in outrageous costumes and glamorous makeup, along with his pet "Fanny the Wonder Dog", and his first television performances were on the alternative comedy programme "Friday Night Live". As his career progressed, he presented his own shows as well as appearing on others such as "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and "QI" and has performed in the award winning production of "Cabaret" on the West End stage.

"A Young Man's Passage" was Julian's autobiography, published in 2006, and his debut novel "Murder Most Fab" was published in 2007.

Julian danced with Erin Boag in series two of Strictly Come Dancing, and after a very nervous Cha Cha Cha in week one, managed to win the public heart and votes - possibly by his camp retorts to Craig Revel-Horwood's comments - making it all the way to the final, and eventually finishing 3rd out of ten couples. More proficient at the ballroom discipline, his Quickstep in the final gave him his highest score of the competition with 29 points in total. When Julian and Erin danced the Samba, Len commented that "as soon as you got your maraccas out, I knew we were in for a treat" and they chose to reprise this dance as their latin choice in the final.
