REVEREND RICHARD COLES
VICAR AND BROADCASTER
Strictly fans of a certain age will recognise Richard as one half of the 1980s pop band The Communards, who he formed with Jimmy Somerville after working with him on Bronski Beat for whom Richard played the saxophone. After several number one songs, the band split in 1988.
Richard then started a writing career, working for the Times Literary Supplement and Catholic Herald, and in 1990, he attended King's College, London to study theology. By 2005 he’d been ordained into the Anglican faith, and alongside his career as a vicar, he is also a writer and broadcaster, co-presenting Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 and The Big Painting Challenge on BBC One. He has written two volumes of memoir, Fathomless Riches and Bringing in the Sheaves.
