London born Sid Owen is most famous for his role as Ricky Butcher in the BBC soap EastEnders, a role he has played on and off since 1988, until recently leaving the show earlier this year. As a young teenage actor, he appeared in the feature film Revolution alongside Al Pacino. Outside of acting, he ran a restaurant in France for a few years, publishing a cookbook in 2007, and has also recorded a song, Good Thing Going which was released as a single in 2000, making it into the UK top twenty singles charts.

Sid competed in the tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing dancing with series 7 champion, Ola Jordan. Sid started the competition with a wonderful waltz in the first week, with an understated but beautiful routine, and a technically good performance for a first dance, surprising a lot of people, including judge Craig Revel Horwood who had predicted on The ONE Show before the series started, that Sid would be the first to leave the competition. The salsa followed in week two, after which his combined scores from the first two weeks saw him in fifth place on the scoreboard. The Hollywood themed week saw Sid & Ola having to dance a tango to a rock song, and the combination of a song that didn't match the dance, a costume complete with prop and a ballroom routine that included too much out of hold, left them in bottom place, but the public vote saved them for another week. Unfortunately, Ola had to go home to Poland due to a family illness, so Sid had to train for the next dance with Iveta, and then perform the routine on the main show with Ola, and on top of the disruption to the preparation for the weekend, it was another theme week - Hallowe'en. Dancing a cha cha cha to the theme from Ghostbusters with yet more props and another song that didn't really suit the dance, meant another week at the bottom of the scoreboard, and this time they faced that dance off, but with three out of four judges voting against them, Sid was the third celebrity to leave the competition, finishing in twelfth place overall.
