Here we go again … the Strictly Come Dancing launch show was broadcast last night and we found out who all our celebrities will be partnered with. There’s a handy Series 17 page with links to all the celebrities, professionals and weekly results, plus you can see the couples on the Series 17 Celebrities page (with the red carpet Meet the Celebrities video) and have a look at the Series 17 Professionals page to find out more about the professional dancers in the show this year (with a look at one of their routines from the launch show) and our newest professional, Nancy, also has a new page on the site too: Nancy Xu. We’ve also got a new judge, Motsi Mabuse, so the Judges page has been updated with some information about Motsi, as well as the group dance from the launch show featuring the judges.
Unfortunately, we’ve had our first casualty, and Jamie Laing has had to retire from the competition after sustaining an injury during the recording of the group dance for the launch show, and it was announced overnight that actor Kelvin Fletcher will take his place. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for Jamie, and perhaps we’ll see him take to the floor in a future series.
I’ve just rewatched the celebrity group dance, and I’ve noticed that I couldn’t see Anneka anywhere on the floor until after the dance finished. In the final shot of the dance, Saffron and Anton are stood next to each other, but the camera cuts away then back again and Anneka has miraculously appeared between them! I know she’s posted on social media that she has a shoulder injury and I wonder if she was advised to sit out the dance this week to try to make sure she was fit for the start of training for the main show, as they couldn’t afford to have two celebrities drop out before the beginning of the competition? If I’m right, I’m hoping that it’s just a precaution and she’ll be fit for training as soon as possible.
The competition starts on BBC One on Saturday 21st September (time to be confimed), and as always, I’ll be updating the site with all the dances and song information as soon as can, and with scores, leaderboards, videos and results after each programme is broadcast. The site will remain result spoiler free throughout the series. See you back here when the dancing begins!
