Biography: Aliona was a relative latecomer to ballroom world, when she started ballroom dancing at the age of 11. She turned professional eight years ago, and as well as specialising in the Ten Dance discipline (all five ballroom and all five latin american dances in one competition), she also dances salsa, hip-hop and jazz.
Aliona has also appeared on the US version of Strictly, Dancing With the Stars, and joined Strictly Come Dancing in the seventh series, then took part in both the Strictly Come Dancing live tour and the Strictly Professionals tour. Aliona reached the final of the eighth series and won the competition in series nine with musician Harry Judd. Aliona was due to compete in series 10 with television presenter Johnny Ball, but in training for their first dance, Aliona sustained a fractured ankle, and was replaced by Iveta Lukosiute. Johnny was voted off the show before Aliona was fit to dance again, but she returned to dance in the professional routines later in the series, and appeared in the 2012 Christmas Special. Aliona was not due to appear in series 11, but following the injury Natalie sustained during training, Aliona was recalled and has stayed among the ranks of the professional dancers.
