Scarborough born Jimi, comes from a medical family, but when his academic record didn't meet the high standards needed for medicine, he decided to try drama school. It turned out to be a good move, and after performing in the stage version of East Is East, he went on to play the part in the film adaptation. He then went on to take a role in BBC soap opera EastEnders but has since starred in both big budget Hollywood movies like The Guru, Ella Enchanted, Blood Diamond and 2012 as well as smaller independent films such as the BAFTA nominated Exam and British film It's A Wonderful Afterlife.

Jimi will be dancing in the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing, and his professional dance partner is Flavia Cacace competing in her fifth series of Strictly.

What The Judges Said

Week 2 - Foxtrot

Alesha:I loved you throughout that dance, Jimi, I thought you acted it really, really well. It as a very sexy foxtrot and I'm excited about what you're gonna do next, I think you're one to watch in this competition.
Bruno:Yes, yes, at the beginning actually, I thought you were gonna go into a full monty - where is he going with this - but I'm telling you, you really took off with pizzazz. You have a twinkle in your eye, you were going from serious to cheeky, very well played, you're a great performer and it shows.
Craig:Got to agree, it had a sort of dramatic intensity which you don't normally see in a foxtrot, which I absolutely adored. I thought you were leading Flavia well and that's something unusual at this stage. And what I thought was also very clever, is that you danced all those wonderful little accents and a lot of people don't hear those in the music, and it shows great musicianship. Well done.

Week 1 - Cha Cha Cha

Len:Well, I'll tell you something, there was nothing adequate about that Cha Cha Cha. I was concerned, last night there was such a high standard that nothing can come up to that level. But I gotta say, you came out, high energy, great rhythm. Few heel leads, you (pointing at Flavia) must have told him about that, your knees need to straighten a little bit more, but overall, what a great start to tonight. Fabulous.
Alesha:Yeah, first out Jimi, never easy, but you did, you came out, you performed it. Bundles of energy, lots of enthusiasm. It was a little bit wobbly at times, and you did lose your timing a little bit, and I would have like it to be a bit sharper for the cha cha, but you know what, for a first dance that was fantastic. Well done.
Bruno:Jimi, you can sell it and you can perform it, you switched all the lights on, but you went wrong. You did, went wrong in the midsection, and that, I could see it in your face and your performance level didn't quite recover as it was before. Great locking and moonwalking, but you know what you did.
Craig:For me it was a little bit like watching the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. Which only goes to prove, my darling, you have great isolation technique, you know, and rhythm, but you do need more control is my point. You really do, and definition. You also need to point your feet if you're going to do those little mini-rondes, darling. You did, however, get out of time as well, but, I agree with the others, great energy. Fantastic.
