Lynda says that she first wanted to become an actress after playing the part of a slave in a school production of Macbeth, but the teachers didn't recognise her talent and failed to give her the opportunity to play any leading roles! She wasn't to be discouraged, however, and attended the Central School of Speech and Drama during the late 1960s.

Although early appearances included classic television programmes such as General Hospital and Z Cars, she became familiar to millions of households across the country as the mum in the popular Oxo adverts which ran for a staggering 16 years. She went on to appear in another national treasure, the television adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small, before taking the lead role in sitcoms Second Thoughts and its next incarnation Faith in the Future.

More recently, Lynda has appeared in the stage version of Calendar Girls and is a regular panelist on ITV's Loose Women.

Lynda will be taking part in the seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing, and her dancing partner is series two winning professional, Darren Bennett.
